The district of Teltow-Fläming, with a population of around 175 000, lies to the south-west of Berlin in the state of Brandenburg. Its administrative offices are located in Luckenwalde. It benefits from its proximity to Berlin and Potsdam, the national and state capitals respectively, in what is regarded as one of the most prosperous areas of Germany. Thanks to major investment, particularly in infrastructure, the Teltow-Fläming region is now a national leader in the aviation, aerospace, biotechnology and automotive sectors. The gross domestic product per capita is well above the average in eastern German.
