The sparsely populated district of Ostprignitz-Ruppin is in the north-west of Brandenburg. Its economic and cultural centre is the town of Neuruppin, also home to the district’s administrative headquarters, which is notable for its neoclassical architecture. The town centres of Kyritz and Wittstock/Dosse are also registered historic sites. Ostprignitz-Ruppin is a rural area which is home to large-scale farming. Significant volumes of agricultural produce are processed by agri-food establishments in the region. The district is regarded as having strong economic potential. Vast heathlands and lake areas characterise the landscape. Nautical tourism is playing an increasingly important role in the economy, especially in the Ruppin Lake District and in the Rheinsberger Seenkette lake area.
