The district of Landsberg am Lech, which stretches as far as the Alpine foothills, includes part of Lake Ammersee, the city of Landsberg with its historic old town, and a number of rural communities. The economy of this Upper Bavarian district with its approximately 121 400 inhabitants (2021) is dominated by medium-sized enterprises. In addition to enterprises which are active internationally, there are family-run craft businesses, which often ensure the continuation of traditional processes, for example in the field of beer brewing. At 2.3%, the unemployment rate in October 2022 was below the Bavarian State average.

Examples of projects and initiatives supported by the EU

Reintegration into the labour market of the long-term unemployed in Landsberg am Lech

EU funding is being channelled into the Landsberg Job Centre, which seeks to help the long-term unemployed regain a foothold on the labour market. The aim is to reduce long-term unemployment. Efforts are being made to find employers for the long- term jobless, remedy skills shortages and provide intensive post-recruitment assistance to participants, enabling them to secure lasting employment.

NATURA 2000 nature reserve Ammersee-Südufer

Being affiliated to the European Natura 2000 network, the 'Vogelfreistätte Ammersee-Südufer', which is partly located in the district, enjoys a high degree of protection. It provides the endangered white-backed woodpecker with breeding grounds and winter quarters and the greater mouse-eared bat with a valuable refuge.

Project 'Alpine Space' Landsberg

Landsberg am Lech is a partner in cross-border cooperation as part of the 'Alpine Space' sustainable regional development programme, which is being largely financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). It aims to simplify cooperation in the Alpine region and addresses economic, social and environmental issues in its numerous projects.

Promotion of apprenticeships in Landsberg

A number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Landsberg am Lech are receiving support from the European Social Fund to create apprenticeships. The aim is to help young people gain a lasting foothold in the labour market. One beneficiary of this funding is a construction company in Landsberg.
