Steadily growing, the administrative district of Erding, comprising 26 communities, lies in the metropolitan region of Munich, economically one of the strongest regions in Europe. A key employer is Franz-Josef-Strauß Airport, much of which is situated within the district. This is of particular benefit to the industrial firms based here, which have seen their international turnover rise sharply in recent years. The world-famous Erding wheat beer tops the list of exports and finds its way to over 90 countries. The district also depends heavily on its tourism sector. Therefore, the bans on travel and overnight stays imposed during the coronavirus crisis resulted in significant losses for the economic hub that is Erding. However, in 2022, the tourism sector made a strong recovery, growing 117.3% compared to the previous year, which was marked by lockdowns.
