The district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, which is made up of three towns and 18 communes and has some 128 000 inhabitants (2022), lies south of the regional capital Munich. The Walchensee and Kochelsee lakes, the rivers Loisach and Isar and the foothills of the Alps dominate the landscape of this district in Upper Bavaria. The Heilklimapark Tölzer Land, an area which is famous for its healthy climate and which includes the spa towns of Bad Tölz and Bad Heilbrunn, attracts many tourists. The district is part of the metropolitan region of Munich, one of whose aims is to promote the regional economy in a manner which safeguards nature and the environment.
