Situated in the south of Baden-Württemberg, the district of Sigmaringen marks the border between the state capital of Stuttgart and the Lake Constance economic area. The economy of the district’s 25 municipalities is centred on handicrafts, medium-sized enterprises, commercial businesses and high-tech firms. The Hohenzollern Castle in Sigmaringen and the Heuneberg Celtic settlement are popular tourist attractions. Albstadt-Sigmaringen University contributes to the area’s reputation as a hub of education for engineering, economics and IT.

Reconstruction of buildings at the Sigmaringen Innovation Campus
The Sigmaringen Innovation Campus aims to make the economy more innovative, attract highly qualified specialists and make Sigmaringen into an attractive location for companies. From 2016 to 2021, three buildings of the former Graf Stauffenberg barracks were converted into facilities for the campus. The European Regional Development Fund contributed EUR 5 million towards the project.
Campus Galli in Meßkirch
Campus Galli is the name of the Carolingian monastery town under construction in the municipality of Meßkirch using the methods and tools from the 9th century. The topping-out ceremony for the large barn was celebrated in 2021, but the construction work will be ongoing for several decades. The project received some EUR 450 000 in seed funding from the EU.
Regional project in Pfullendorf
RegioProject is offering unusual and creative employment for people encountering difficulties on the labour market. In Pfullendorf, for example, used clothing was upcycled into new products. Werstättle e.V.](https://werkstaettle-pfullendorf.jimdofree.com/) received some EUR 60 000 euros from the European Social Fund in 2018 and 2019 as part of RegioProject.
