The rural district of Rottweil lies between the Black Forest and the Swabian Jura; much of it is given over to agriculture and forestry. The area’s economy is largely made up of small and medium-sized businesses; metalworking and electrical engineering are the main industries. Rottweil forms part of the region where carnival is celebrated in the Swabian-Alemannic manner. In the town of the same name, this takes the form of the famous ‘Narrensprung’ masked procession. Many pilgrims will be familiar with the Neckar-Baar route, which is part of St Jacob’s Way and passes through the district.
Examples of projects and initiatives supported by the EU
Planting trees
EU funding to the tune of EUR 23 000 enabled five climate-resilient trees along the Rottweiler Hochbrücktorstraße to be planted. Field maple, manna ash, littleleaf linden and honey locust trees were planted along the between the Marktbrunnen and the Hochbrücke in November 2021.
Construction of a warehouse, office and production building
The EU particularly supports investments in infrastructure for innovation and research. For example, EUR 200 000 of EU funding was allocated for the construction of a research and development centre by a company in Rottweil, which specialises in process optimisation.
Construction of a development and production building
The EU contributed EUR 200 000 – that is half the cost – towards the building of an extension for an automotive supplier in Rottweiler. This allowed the undertaking, which specialises in electronics, to expand in 2019 to include a new production hall.
Expansion of the production building with training and technology center as well as machine investment
Several small and medium-sized enterprises in the district are being supported in their efforts to increase production with the help of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). For example, a company specialising in the construction of prototypes received an EU grant of EUR 200 000 for the construction of a production hall to expand its existing operations in Zimmern ob Rottweil.
Building bridges – Rottweil time travel
LEADER is an EU funding instrument that supports local people’s initiatives. The town of Rottweil received EUR 258 000 for the design of a signposted ‘Time Travel Path’ between the test tower and the historic centre.
