This district comprises 23 municipalities and has around 235 000 inhabitants. The district’s seat is the town of Rastatt. Nestling between the Black Forest and the Vosges, it lies on the rivers Rhine and Murg. The baroque town has a population of around 50 000, and its main architectural landmarks are the Residential Palace and Favorite Palace. About 2 000 firms, including global groups, small and medium-sized enterprises and creative businesses, are established there. Europe’s largest street theatre festival, ‘tête-à-tête’, which takes place there every two years, is celebrating its 31st anniversary in 2024. The district is twinned with the Italian province of Pesaro-Urbino and with the city of Vantaa in Finland.
