With a population of around 110 000, the district of Hohenlohe is one of the least populous districts in Baden-Württemberg. Despite this, it has – relatively speaking – one of the highest concentrations of world leading companies in sectors such as fan and ventilation technology, assembly and fastening technology, and measurement and control technology. Given its strong economic position, the Hohenlohe district has enjoyed sustained employment growth and a low unemployment rate. Given the abundance of castles and palaces in the area, it is no surprise that the district’s Swabian motto is ‘a castle in every neighbourhood’ (‘In jedem Neschd a Schlouss’). The Kocher-Jagst Cycle Route and the Württemberger Wine Cycle Path that pass through the region both have four-star ratings and are very popular with cycling tourists.
Examples of projects and initiatives supported by the EU
Construction of a historic wine press with a roof
EU co-financing of around EUR 16 000 made the construction of a historic winepress in Ailringen possible, which now serves as a testimony to the local fruit and wine-growing tradition and also as a practical, covered seating area.
Reactivation of a corner shop
The LEADER programme, under which the EU supports rural development projects, contributes to the financing of a wide range of operations in the district. EU funding to the tune of EUR 16 000 made it possible, for example, to open a ‘Tante Emma shop’ with regional products in Mulfingen-Eberbach.
Experience Hohenlohe by bike
‘Experience Hohenlohe by bike’ is both the motto of many cycle tourists and the name of a project in the district. An EU contribution of around EUR 25 000 facilitated the introduction of bike service points in Schöntal-Westernhausen, Kupferzell and Waldenburg, with lockers and tool stations.
Construction of a new company building and the construction of a training and technology center
The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) supports the EU investments of small and medium-sized undertakings in research and innovation. For example, EUR 200 000 in EU funding was allocated to the construction works of a valve manufacturer in Bretzfeld, not least to support the development of an innovative magnetic valve system.
