This district in the north of Baden-Württemberg is considered to be a particularly good place to set up a business, both at state level and nationwide. Small and medium-sized enterprises, including several world market leaders and international corporations, are based there. In addition to industry, agriculture also plays a very significant role: cereals, potatoes and especially grapes (for winemaking) are grown on over 50 % of the district’s surface area. Brackenheim, known for being the town where Theodor Heuss was born, is the largest wine-growing municipality in Württemberg and the largest red wine-growing municipality in the whole of Germany. Thanks to its landscapes, the district is also considered to be an area that offers a high quality of life. The population of the district is expected to increase significantly by 2025.
