Pleven Province, which comprises 11 local authority areas, 14 towns and 109 villages in the central Danube plain, has a population of approximately 228 300 (2021 figure). The province is an agricultural area. It also boasts over 450 archaeological and cultural sites and is home to the largest Thracian gold hoard ever discovered, in the village of Valchitran.
