What Europe does for me
How does Europe affect our everyday lives? How does it impact on our jobs, our families, our health care, our hobbies, our journeys, our security, our consumer choices and our social rights? And how is Europe present in our towns, cities and regions?
As European citizens, no matter where we live, how we make our living, or how we spend our time, the EU has an impact on our daily lives. This website presents a wide range of short, easy-to-read texts drawn up by the European Parliamentary Research Service, focusing on what the European Union does and the impact it has on us all, both in our everyday lives and in our local areas. It explores EU actions from the individual’s point of view, with many examples of projects and support. Read them yourself, but then please share and reuse these texts. And if you want a broader view, take a look at the section on EU policies in focus.
European Parliamentary Research Service
The European Parliamentary Research Service (EPRS) provides comprehensive research and analytical support to the Members of the European Parliament, its parliamentary committees and the institution as a whole. It provides independent, objective and authoritative material on all EU policies, legislation and issues. All of our publications are publicly available and can be found on the European Parliament's Think Tank website and the EPRS App.
European Parliament
The European Parliament is an important forum for political debate and decision-making at EU level. The Members of the European Parliament are directly elected by voters in all Member States to represent people’s interests when EU laws are made and to scrutinise the work of other EU institutions and hold them to account.
The Parliament acts as joint law-maker with the Council of the European Union (made up of ministers from national governments), sharing the power to adopt and amend legislative proposals and to decide on the EU budget. It also scrutinises the work of the European Commission and other EU bodies and cooperates with the national parliaments of all EU countries.
