
The five islands that make up Malta cover 315km2. Malta is among the smallest countries in the world. Two islands, Malta and Gozo, are inhabited, with the majority of the population living around the Grand Harbour. The population, among the most densely concentrated in the world, exceeds half a million. The islands are located in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, which provides sustenance, recreation and trade.
